Editing
For nearly a decade, Gage has worked with writers to develop, refine, and polish their novel and short story manuscripts. With a comprehensive knowledge of the literary journal landscape, not only can he work with writers on honing their craft but he can direct them to appropriate venues for their writing.
He serves as a Guest Editor at Craft and The Masters Review, where he provides feedback on flash fiction, short stories, novel excerpts, and creative nonfiction. He is an Editorial Assistant for Cimarron Review, and a former Fiction Editor at The McNeese Review. Over the years, he has served as a reader for The Common, Hub City Press, Split/Lip Press, FC2, Cease,Cows, and elsewhere.
Gage privileges clear actionable feedback that guides writers toward the unrealized potential in their stories. Providing editorial letters and/or substantive line edits, Gage is committed to empowering authors at any stage of their writing careers. He doesn't believe in catch-all writing rules or trite platitudes. Each manuscript is considered within its own realm, with distinct goals and possibilities, accountable only to the author and what outcome they want from their work.
I am currently OPEN for consultations. If you're interested in learning more about my services or rates, please contact me. My areas of expertise are short stories and the novel, but I'm able to consult about other genres/forms on a case-by-case basis. My rates are generally in step with the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA) but I offer a sliding scale based on your concerns about the manuscript and the current state of your work.
I look forward to working with you!
